Sony Ericsson's Walkman phones

2008-01-31
Sony-Ericsson Walkman phones let you rock out in style. Mobile phones come feature-packed these days. From GPS systems to high-resolution cameras, phones are never just phones, and music players are now inseparable from mobile devices. You'd struggle to find a mobile that doesn't play music in some shape or form. Despite strong competition from Nokia's N-Series and Motorola's ROKR music phones, the Walkman branded Sony Ericssons stand out with distinctive design and arguably the best music application in mobile devices. The strong black and orange colour palette of the Walkman family has become synonymous with mobile music. This isn't to say there isn't room for improvement, for example, we'd love to see a Walkman phone with a 3.5mm headphone jack. In the last 12 months Sony Ericsson have piled seven new Walkman phones into the market, with more on the way: the W760 and the ultra-affordable W350 due for release early in 2008. This year's Walkman phones have been slimmer and sexier than those of the previous year; including the W880i which still stands out as one of the slimmest mobile phones available in Australia. EditorsĄŻ rating: 6.4 Sony Ericsson W200i The W200i is an entry level music phone with the famous Walkman branding, but in its case you're paying a lot for a logo -- even if it is an entry-level phone. EditorsĄŻ rating: 8.0 Sony Ericsson W580i Sony Ericsson's W580i is a sexy, thin slider that you'll want to carry in your pocket for its MP3 music player, radio or just to use the built-in pedometer. EditorsĄŻ rating: 8.5 Sony Ericsson W660i Another Walkman branded music phone from Sony Ericsson, the W660i features 3G connectivity, a 2-megapixel camera and support for RSS feeds. EditorsĄŻ rating: 7.8 Sony Ericsson W880i Sony Ericsson's ultra-thin W880i is a stylish music phone bundled with a 1GB card for storage. Sony Ericsson W890i The sleeker user interface, improved keypad and better connectivity features make the W890i more attractive than its predecessor, the W880i. EditorsĄŻ rating: 8.2 Sony Ericsson W910i Its motion sensing feature is a little silly, but with its slim and light shape and plentiful music features, the W910 is still a winner. EditorsĄŻ rating: 7.6 Sony Ericsson W960i So close yet so far: the feature-packed W960i smartphone stands out on paper but is held back by a clunky processor and a laggy interface.
